WHAT IS THIS DOG DOING?!?!?

If they don’t take me out soon, I’ll try it their way! — Mike M., Dallas TX

If they want me to get house-trained, why do they leave the toilet seat down? — Melissa K., Boston, MA

Messing up the bathroom!, Mike G., New Haven, CT, age 9

Leash? This will work! I’ll bring it! — Bill L., Chicago IL

It looks so tempting, I wish it tasted good too! — Vickie D., Howell, MI

No wonder Dad spends so much time in the bathroom…this is fun! — Emily W., Hilliard, Ohio

I hate it when the bidet isn’t working. — Lauren V., Boston, MA

WHY DO THEY KEEP CLOSING MY WATER BOWL?!?!

BUT WHO WON?  LET’S ASK JOE!

Everybody is a comedian, huh?  We may sit on command to please you, but don’t get any ideas about us climbing up on that toilet to do it. Not a shot! Don’t get me wrong, we dogs think bathrooms are great.  You’re supplying us with a giant water bowl–at least, you change the water in it a lot more often than in our other one. You came up with some funny answers for this month’s contest. A leash?  Nice one. But I think my favorite funny caption comes from Emily W. of Hillard, Ohio: No wonder Dad spends so much time in the bathroom…this is fun!  At least it hints at the truth.  Playing with toilet paper IS fun!  We can race with it around the house or paw it into a pile on the floor.  We know you don’t like that, but we’re bored! BORED, BORED, BORED!  Take us out for a run a little more often.  And if you don’t like the idea that we are messing up the bathroom, as our other winner, 9-year-old Mike G. from New Haven CT suggests, just close the door.

Susan, send out those books! Meanwhile…

WHAT IS THIS DOG DOING?!?!?

Nice yawn.  Any good dreams?–Aviva, Takoma Park, MD, age 8

I DON’T WANT A TIME OUT!!!!!!!!! How was I supposed to know the hot dogs were not free!–Jenn H., Mysterytown, USA

BUT WHO WON?  LET’S ASK JOE!

I really like the song, I Will Always Love You, except when you people go for those high notes.  Ouch!  But I like the idea of having no cavities even better.  Lots of times dogs’ cavities don’t get discovered until it’s too late.  Then a vet has to pull the tooth.  If you remember, one of the winning captions of each contest doesn’t have to be right; it just has to be funny and meet my approval.  Congrats, Bill L. of Chicago.  Look Ma.  No cavities! gets a book.

So what is this dog actually doing?  Brother and sister team, Isaac and Aviva, know that he is yawning!  We caught him in the middle of a big one, too.  Changes are, the photographer was yawning too.  Did you know that dogs yawn five times more often when they hear people yawn?  Maybe Isaac and Aviva have been reading the latest scientific studies.

I’ll tell Susan to get those books out right away…

Contest #1, August 1-14

WHAT ARE THESE DOGS DOING?!?!?

First rehearsal for all-canine casting of The King and I.  –Dave E., Bellefountaine, OH

These two dogs are practicing mirroring tai chi. They are very good at it.–Pat R., Cambridge, MA

You Dance Divinely, Really, You DO! –Bill L., Chicago IL

If we’re gonna play Dancing With the Stars again, you have to be the expert. This time, I want to be Rin Tin Tin!  –Liz B., Washington DC

BUT WHO WON?  LET’S ASK JOE!

These pups do look like they are dancing, don’t they?  And some of you came up with some funny doggy dancing answers.  Sorry, the only thing dogs would like about ballroom dancing is the ball part.  If you remember, the winning caption part of the contest doesn’t have to be right–just funny.  This time the prize goes to Pat R. of Cambridge, Massachusetts, who said, “These two dogs are practicing mirroring tai chi. They are very good at it.”  I liked the idea, although some Pekingese and Chow Chow friends of mine said the only way they’d consider trying it was if lots of biscuits were involved.

So what are these dogs actually doing?  They’re playing, for goodness sake.  And having fun too.  No right answer for that part of the contest.  I’ll tell Susan to save that book for next time..
